Confederate Memorial Re-dedication in Anderson SC May 11, 2013

                Re-dedication of the Confederate Monument
                       in Downtown Anderson, SC
                            Saturday, May 11, 2013

On a bright, crisp Saturday morning in Anderson County Confederate Veterans were remembered and allegiances to their cause were pledged by attendees. There were speakers and a key note speech was made by Dr. Timothy Drake. His speech reflected on the hardships on both the Confederate soldier and the loved one that were left behind to maintain life as best they could on the homesteads.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy groups in Anderson County read the names of the Confederate veterans as a bell toiled in respect to honor each name. The UDC participants were Emmala Reed Miller Chapter, Regina Power President and Belton Chapter, Darlene Dowdy. Salutes and pledges to the American flag, the SC State flag and the Confederate flag were led by Jim Whiteside of the Camp 1428. A brief history of the conception and construction of the monument was presented by Piedmont Director Hope Kateman. A wreath was supplied by the Palmetto Sharpshooters Camp 1428 and presented by Piedmont UDC Director Hope Kateman and Commander Michael Barns of the Palmetto Sharpshooters Camp 1428. A Honor Volley Salute was presented by the 2nd. South Carolina Rifles followed by the playing of Taps.
